By ATTPL Legal Editorial Team · · 2 min read
Step-by-step guide to filing a consumer complaint online in India on e-Jagriti: when to file, which commission, documents, fees and what happens next.

When you can file a complaint
Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, you can file a complaint for defective goods, deficient services, unfair trade practices, overcharging or misleading advertisements. Before filing, send a written complaint to the seller or service provider and keep the reply.
Try the National Consumer Helpline
The National Consumer Helpline (1915) and its online portal help resolve many disputes with companies before litigation. If this does not work, file before the consumer commission.

Which commission to approach
- District Commission: claims up to ₹50 lakh
- State Commission: above ₹50 lakh up to ₹2 crore
- National Commission: above ₹2 crore
The value is the consideration paid for the goods or services. You can file where you live or work, or where the opposite party is located.
Filing on e-Jagriti
